  • Construction Industry Training Council of Washington (CITC) – Open-shop (non-union) training school and apprenticeship provider with carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, sheet metal, laborers, heavy equipment, and more, with classes across WA. (CITC)

  • AJAC – Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee – State-funded nonprofit offering youth and adult apprenticeships in aerospace and advanced manufacturing statewide, partnering with WA colleges and employers. (AJAC)

  • Finishing Trades Institute Northwest (FTINW) – Union apprenticeship school for floor covering, painting, glazing, and other finishing trades with programs in Eastern and Western WA. (ftinw.org)

1. ROOFERS

Community & Technical Colleges

Spokane Community College – Roofer Apprenticeship (with Inland Empire Roofers)

  • Location: Spokane

  • Pathway: Certificate – Roofer Apprenticeship, tied into Inland Empire Roofers program via SCC’s Hands-On & Building Trades pathway. (Spokane Community College)

Most roofing training is union apprenticeship–based in WA. Non-union contractors typically train helpers on the job, sometimes using CITC or other construction schools for safety and basics.

2. SHEET METAL

Bates Technical College – Western Washington Sheet Metal JATC Program

3. GENERAL CONSTRUCTION

5. WELDING

  • One–two year welding program using industry-standard equipment. (Career Bridge)

Union / Apprenticeship

Welding is often built into pipe trades, sheet metal, ironworkers, and manufacturing apprenticeships (UA locals, sheet metal JATCs, AJAC manufacturing).

6. ELECTRICIAN

Community & Technical Colleges (Related Instruction / Pre-Apprentice)

Many electrical apprenticeships partner with colleges (Renton Technical, Bates, etc.) for the classroom side.

7. PLUMBING

Community & Technical Colleges

Plumbing classroom instruction is usually delivered through JATCs or CITC, sometimes hosted at colleges (e.g., Renton, Spokane). Use Career Bridge for direct “Plumbing” programs. (Career Bridge)

8. DIESEL MECHANIC

9. CARPENTRY

10. PAINTING

Community & Technical Colleges

Painting is mostly learned through apprenticeship; stand-alone college programs are rare. Use Career Bridge + “Painting” for any regional options. (Career Bridge)

  • Washington-registered apprenticeships in industrial/commercial painting, drywall finishing, floor covering, glazing, and more, in both Eastern and Western WA. (ftinw.org)

  • Online theory + contractor employment structure for HVACR (and often plumbing via UA locals or employer networks).

  • Offers an “Industrial and Manufacturing Technology” certificate at its Colville Center plus programs in Machining/CNC, Mechatronics, Robotics, etc. (Spokane Community College)

Many WA community & technical colleges (e.g., Renton Technical, Everett, Bates, BTC) offer Machining, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance and related programs—search “Manufacturing” or “Machinist” on Career Bridge. (Career Bridge)

AJAC – Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships (Adult & Youth)

  • Occupations: Machinist, CNC Machinist, Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Tool & Die, Production Technician, etc.
